Located on a historic ranch in Edna Valley, Kynsi Winery takes full advantage of the coastal climate and one-of-a-kind soil profiles of one of the best wine growing regions in the world.
Specializing in Pinot Blanc, Rose of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and more, this family-run business processes its grapes in a renovated old dairy farm. However, when Don and Gwen Othman took over the property, they found that there was a huge gopher problem. Hearing that barn owls are gopher’s number one predator, they helped a nesting pair find a good home on the property and easily helped the problem by taking out around 40 gophers in one night to feed their young. Since the barn owls were instrumental in keeping the winery alive, the Othman’s named their winery “kynsi”, the Finnish word for “talon”. Don Othman also invented a piece of wine equipment called The Bulldog Pup. To be used instead of a pump, The Bulldog is a gas pressure racking wand used to move wine in and out of barrels. Kynsi Winery is open daily from 11am-5pm and its tasting fee is $12.
