Hosted at Cliffs Resort in Pismo Beach, this traditional 3-day wine and surf event combines two activities that makes San Luis Obispo great. Pairing the easygoing wine country environment with the Central Coast’s laidback surf vibe, ocean and wine aficionados enjoy multiple days of unforgettable events taking place in Pismo Beach and the Fremont Theatre in SLO.
Participants can enjoy events including a longboard surf contest, Barrel to Barrel wine and beer tasting, local farm-fresh cuisine, live music and so much more during Wine, Waves and Beyond. Over the last 7 years, the event has raised over $170,000 for local charity organizations. This year, the chosen nonprofit is GleanSLO, a program of the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo. GleanSLO connects farmers and backyard gardeners to volunteers who help harvest any excess fruits and vegetables and redistribute them to local food banks so that the food doesn’t go to waste.
Another major sponsor of the WW&B is the local favorite Still Frothy Surf Festival. Designed to get California’s youth off the couch and discover surfing, this contest is still the only one on the Central Coast that includes a tow-at air division. Even if you don’t surf, grab a glass of wine and wiggle your toes in the sand as you watch the Jr. Guard Challenge, young up-and-coming surfers, and (Jet Ski assist) open division air show. Sunday’s 805 Surf Classic includes men and women, challenged athletes, longboard, and local winemakers and brew masters divisions followed by a free concert on the beach with the Boomer Surf Band and Shane Stoneman. There will also be a vintage VW display with old-school buses, bugs, and surf-style vehicles.
