Silver Horse Winery

Originally established in 1989, Silver Horse vintners bottled its reds from the 80-acre property based in Paso Robles and its whites from Edna Valley.

However, when the extreme drought swept through California affecting its agricultural, owners Jim and Suzanna Kroener sold the property and passed the torch to their son Stephen. Stephen moved the family’s wine production to a facility on the western side of Paso Robles and opened a distillery called KROBAR with partner Joe Barton (of Grey Wolf Cellars). Stephen spent a couple of years searching for the perfect tasting room when in 2016 the old Santa Fe schoolhouse came available. Stephen renovated it into a tasting room in Avila Valley, now offering guests wines by the glass and flights from the Silver Horse at the Schoolhouse, along with a deli, outdoor music, and a variety of other events. Silver Horse is open Thurs-Sun 11am-5pm with a $12 tasting fee.
